Mac Lag Since Mavericks

Since upgrading to Mavericks, My mac which I use for web development has decided to start lagging on me.

Switching between windows, browser tabs or programs causes the whole machine to freeze up, the pinwheel to start spinning and my keyboard to get smashed to pieces.

Its less then a year old and not something I expect!. I have a Macbook that is over a year older then this and it runs perfectly fine and has 1gb disk space left.

Any ideas?

Yes, I also agree with this reply. More space will be needed for this. Sometimes if you use an app like Xcode 5 for high quality app development then it will also consume more space on hard drive for analyzing code, testing apps and monitoring performance.
